Types of polishing pads

The most important thing to use a polishing machine is to choose a suitable polishing pad. Installed on the polishing machine as a felt pad for polishing and polishing, there are towel felt pads and wool felt pads, and sponge felt pads are more commonly used recently.

(1) Towel mat

The towel felt pad is made of towels and is set on the base of the polishing machine's grinding head. There are two ways of suiting, one is to fasten it with a rope; the other is to bring its own rubber band, which can be used after putting it on. Towel mats are cheap and easy to grind, so they are widely used. When choosing, it should be noted that thicker fabrics have a long service life and should be selected first. Towel felt pads with long hair are better for use, and won't leave abrasion marks. There are generally 2 to 3 sizes of towel felt pads, which should be selected according to the size of the polishing area.

(2) Wool felt pad

There are also several kinds of wool felt pads, one is used directly on the base, the other is fixed with screws, and the other is a felt pad that can be used on both sides. The wool felt pad used directly on the base has relatively fine hair and is mainly used for final polishing, as shown in Figure 4-26. The other two felt pads are mainly used for polishing with abrasive paste. The contact area between the wool felt pad and the coating film is larger than that of the towel felt pad, and the operation speed is faster.

(3) Sponge felt pad
